Old-school Self Defense

The king's soldiers didn't shoot fast. But they shot often.

How long did it take to reload a shot? About 15 goddamn seconds.

I swear the first time I saw the Lars Andersen video on speed archery I thought it was fake.

A man shooting 3 arrows in 2 seconds? That's about 100 times faster than a British soldier can fire 3 shots from a musket. And probably more accurately, and with about the same amount of skill.

We went backwards, guys.

So you might want to know how to shoot fast. It might come in useful.

Just in case you can't get one of these....

This is the video that took the internet, and took no prisoners. Seems fake, right?

He's actually teaching people how to shoot fast and accurately in mid-air like he does, how to turn arrows in mid-air, and more.

If you can only do half as well as his worst student, you'd really have something.

He can train people to shoot fast. Not in years of training, but HOURS.

If you're not constrained by your limited supply of gunpowder and lead and expensive, time-consuming trips to the gun range for practice sessions, then you'll learn fast, keep sharp, and never run out of ammo.

You also won't be tempted to waste all that long-range ammo when it's not necessary for day-to-day situations.

There's nothing wrong with the 20th century methods and equipment. They have their place. But  for practical self-defense, you don't want to fish your compound bow out of it's case, strap the gear onto your wrist and try to eyeball a carefully-aimed shot when you're surrounded by a pack of wolves.

So in competition, use the gear and techniques, but in life, if you only have a $7 bow, you can do a lot to defend yourself and your family if you had to.

Technology doesn't always make things better.
